Call for Free Training Initiatives for Export Industries Gains Momentum

Lahore: The Chairperson of the Carpet Training Institute, Ejaz-ur-Rehman, has urged the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) to expand its free training programs to encompass all export-oriented industries. This call comes in light of the current focus on the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters.

Addressing a gathering comprising manufacturers, exporters from the handmade carpet sector, and representatives of the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA), Mr. Rehman praised the NAVTTC’s existing initiatives for the garments sector. He emphasized the necessity of extending such programs to other vital export industries to address Pakistan’s economic hurdles and bolster export performance.

The meeting highlighted that over 30 trade associations are affiliated with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), predominantly representing export-oriented sectors. These associations play a crucial role in advocating for their industries and tackling sector-specific challenges.

Mr. Rehman pointed out the unique needs of industries like handmade carpets, which rely heavily on exports and operate largely within a cottage industry framework. He emphasized the importance of modern skills training and knowledge of global IT-based marketing trends to maintain competitiveness in the international arena.

He further noted that NAVTTC’s training programs have the potential to significantly strengthen the workforce in these sectors. Representing the PCMEA, Mr. Rehman called on the government to provide similar free vocational training opportunities to all major export industries, suggesting that such initiatives could substantially enhance the country’s industrial and export capabilities.
