New york: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the Palestinian struggle and their right to self-determination. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed gratitude to the United States for tabling the resolution that welcomes and endorses President Donald Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to end the Gaza conflict, laying the groundwork for its implementation.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad stated that Pakistan voted in favor of the resolution with the primary aim of stopping the bloodshed, saving the lives of innocent Palestinians, including women and children, maintaining the ceasefire, ensuring large-scale humanitarian relief, and securing the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Ambassador Ahmad highlighted that the establishment of the temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) could be stabilizing if guided by a clear peacekeeping mandate consistent with UN norms. He noted that disarmament should occur through a political process negotiated under a unified Palestinian National Authority, with the protection of the people of Gaza as a key priority in the ISF mandate.
He further emphasized that the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza is essential for restoring Palestinian sovereignty and securing durable peace, and that the ISF mandate will be effective only after the complete Israeli withdrawal. Ambassador Ahmad stressed that there must be no annexation or forced displacement, underscoring the importance of territorial contiguity between the West Bank and Gaza for a viable, sovereign, and independent State of Palestine.
