Karachi: The Sindh government has approved a five hundred fifteen million rupees relief and subsidy package for the fishing community in view of rising petroleum prices. The decision was taken at a Sindh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in Karachi.
According to Radio Pakistan, the package will provide subsidies to 2,331 small coastal boats with 20-horsepower engines, each receiving 200,000 rupees, while 488 boats with 10-horsepower engines will be allocated 100,000 rupees each. Fishermen operating in Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin are set to benefit from this initiative.
The Chief Minister also announced a one-time payment to cover two months' worth of fuel expenses for registered boat owners, further supporting the fishing community amid the financial challenges posed by increasing fuel costs.
