Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal Advocates for Sustainable Development Through CPEC and Global Collaboration

Beijing: In a recent panel discussion at the Second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal outlined a multifaceted strategy for achieving sustainable development in Pakistan. He emphasized the crucial role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and proposed a four-pronged approach involving national strategy alignment, international collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Iqbal highlighted the ‘5Es plan’, which includes Exports, E-Pakistan, Environment & Climate Change, Energy and Infrastructure, and Equity and Empowerment. This strategy aims to foster inclusive growth, efficient resource utilization, and environmental sustainability. He detailed how initiatives under CPEC have bolstered infrastructure, increased energy production, and facilitated economic opportunities, particularly through the development of renewable energy projects.

The Minister stressed the importance of innovation as a development catalyst, citing advancements in digital economy and e-governance in China as models for fostering inclusivity and efficiency. He also called for enhanced international cooperation, particularly in artificial intelligence, to address global challenges through joint research and technology-sharing agreements.

Furthermore, Ahsan Iqbal appreciated the role of the China International Development Cooperation Agency in facilitating knowledge exchange and highlighted the need for establishing knowledge hubs and educational collaborations to advance global sustainable development goals.
