PM terms climate change as matter of national security

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar says the climate change has become a matter of national security for countries like Pakistan, despite their least contribution to environmental degradation.

He said this while chairing a meeting in Islamabad today regarding the upcoming COP 28 conference to be held in the United Arab Emirates next month.

The Prime Minister will represent Pakistan in the high-level segment of the COP28 being held on first and second of the next month.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said Pakistan through its climate diplomacy is playing a positive role in the global debate on the matter. He said one-third of Pakistan's population was affected in recent flooding.

The Prime Minister also applauded rehabilitation work of the concerned departments after the floods.

He also directed the relevant departments to make a comprehensive preparation to present Pakistan's stance on climate finance and other related matter at the COP 28 conference being held under the auspices of the United Nations.
