Poonch: Several Kashmiri political prisoners were injured after Indian police personnel launched a violent assault on inmates inside Poonch District Jail in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, following their demand for basic facilities.
According to Radio Pakistan, a group of Kashmiri prisoners peacefully requested access to essential amenities, but jail authorities responded with force, injuring several, including Adil Hamid Dar from Shopian.
Families of Kashmiri inmates have revealed that Muslim prisoners are also facing religious persecution, including forcibly shaved beards and a ban on reciting the Holy Qur’an within prison. On the other hand, the New Delhi-imposed administration in IIOJK, led by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has seized properties of two Kashmiris as part of its ongoing crackdown under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman has called for a complete shutdown in IIOJK on July 13, in observance of Kashmir Martyrs’ Day. He urged the Kashmiri people to observe a complete strike to send a clear message to India that Kashmiris will not rest until the end of its illegal occupation.
