Rawalpindi: Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has announced the government's commitment to modernizing Pakistan's railway infrastructure, outlining a series of comprehensive steps aimed at revitalizing the sector.

According to Radio Pakistan, during a media briefing in Rawalpindi, Minister Abbasi revealed plans to refurbish all trains, including prominent services like Tezgam and Karachi Express, by June of the upcoming year. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the rail network.

The Minister detailed the allocation of forty-three locomotives specifically for freight operations, a move designed to bolster economic activity. Additionally, the railway fleet is set to expand with the addition of sixteen new power coaches by the end of this year. The remaining ninety power coaches are slated for a priority overhaul.

Focusing on employee welfare, Abbasi highlighted the development of international-standard guard and driver rooms at Rawalpindi Railway Station. These state-of-the-art facilities are planned to be implemented at other major stations, including Lahore, Karachi, Rohri, and Khanewal, to improve working conditions for railway staff.

Abbasi also mentioned the ongoing upgrade of the Rawalpindi Railway Station entrance, modeled after the Lahore Railway Station, to enhance passenger experience. He emphasized the administration's prudent measures, which have effectively reduced operational costs for Pakistan Railways, signaling a positive trajectory for the national rail service.
